On a deluge of a Friday, Westbourne College Sydney students proudly joined the 5th annual School Strike 4 Climate – along with hundreds of other protesters – to demand real action from the government against the current climate crisis. Organising strikes in Sydney since 2019, including the 80,000-strong rally in the same year, SS4C is an international student-led organisation (of which Elaine and myself are part) which fights for climate justice and pushes politicians to put people and the environment before fossil fuel-based profits.
Our core demands are:
- To achieve net zero by 2030 – which means no new coal, oil or gas projects.
- To achieve 100- renewable energy generations and exports by 2030.
- To fund a just job creation and transition, and provide ongoing support, for all fossil fuel workers and their communities.
Prior to the strike, Westbourne College pooled together our artistic prowess to unveil a gallery of signs – parading our relentless support in eradicating the climate crisis.
